If elected, I intend to:

Support the outstanding education currently offered at Oakton.

Advance awareness in the community of Oakton’s quality and programming.

Cultivate understanding of ways Oakton credentials can advance progress to a 4-year degree.

Continue to prioritize the anti-racism work already begun.

Prioritize an equity assessment to inform the most equitable distribution of resources.

I am a teacher, an academic & an activist

I have been an adult educator for more than twenty-five years. My practice has been focused on helping adult learners, especially those ill-served by traditional education to meet their personal, academic and professional goals. Focusing on the ways in which race impacts educational equity, opportunity and subsequent experiences, my practice has included a focus on culture as a context for learning and designing education. I am committed to education for social justice and social change.

In addition to traditional teaching, I have:

  • designed curriculum

  • trained faculty on assessing adult learning

  • been a volunteer teacher at a bilingual, social justice high school for adults

  • been a consultant in adult learning

  • been a community educator about race

  • published articles on democracy and adult education and on teaching race
