Why I’m Running
As many of you know, I have served as Trustee for Oakton College District 535 since 2019. You have probably heard me say what an extraordinary resource Oakton is for our community. Still maintaining this strong belief, I am proud to have filed to run for reelection.
You may be asking, “Isn’t six years long enough to serve as a volunteer public servant?” My response is: this is the time to lean in, not to step down. We are all aware of the challenges we face in Washington; this is a time for steady, experienced leadership at the local level. School boards have never been more important. That’s why I am running in 2025.
When I ran in 2019, my focus was on equity and every program or service I have supported over these past six years has been through that lens. My platform has always been and continues to be built on access to quality higher education for all. I believe in creating programs that include essential and comprehensive wrap-around services and in supporting students so that they achieve the goals they have set for themselves. Admissions is the beginning; completion is the goal.
In the past six years under President Smith’s and this Board’s leadership, inclusive programs have grown and are thriving. Some of these include the Black Student Success Program, the Emory Williams Academy for Black Men, Northwestern Medical Assistant Program, Northwestern Prison Education Program, the Endeavor Health partnership and programs and services resulting from the recently adopted neurodiversity inclusion statement.
This is a time for seasoned, reliable leadership, for Trustees who understand the Oakton College environment and the broader community and students we serve. I will continue to actively support equity-focused, academically superior programs that serve our entire community. And I will support the brilliant leaders, faculty and staff we have hired to carry out this essential work at Oakton College. I hope you will support my candidacy.
There are several ways you can help: knocking doors, making phone calls, spreading the word to District 535 friends and family and if you are able, please consider a financial donation. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated and a donation link is provided below.
